general observation

Its pretty easy to tell if I'm having a good day or not.... Here are a few signs its been a good day!

-I've showered! This usually means my son took a nap at some point and I had 15 minutes to myself to shower and get dressed for the day.... Although sometimes "get dressed" can still mean I'm in sweatpants. At least they're usually clean sweatpants, and not what I was wearing when I went to bed the night before. I mean what I need to dress to the hilt to hang out with a one year old all day? I dont think so.....

-I greet you at the door with a smile and don't shove my child on you right away! If its been a bad day I'm known to hear my husband come home and immediately say "yay daddy's home... go find daddy..." and mumble something like you're driving me crazy.....

-It smells clean... Whether that means I mopped the kitchen floor, dusted, wiped down the kitchen counters... If something got clean its usually a good sign I had the chance to do so.

-Dinner is in the works... If its been a long day the last thing I want to do it make dinner! So if I have things prepared or stuff set out in preparation its a good sign :)

Here are some ways you know its been a bad day..........

-I say "hey let's order pizza for dinner!" While I do enjoy pizza very much, especially one that gets delievered to my door, most of the time I want that when I don't want to cook anything b/c its been a crazy day.

-My kitchen counters are a mess. (obviously this picture is not of my house... it reminds me of an episode of hoarders though...) I hate clutter on the kitchen counters. So if there are piles of dishes/papers/food on them, its cause I've been too busy to clear them off at some point.

-Toys are everywhere. I usually try to pick up a few toys here and there throughout the day. My lil guy has a tendancy to pull every toy out and leave it in the middle of the floor. So if they're still everywhere... I've been lazy!

So there you have it... now all of the signs can't happen at the same time for it to be a good day... I mean it could but its highly unlikely. Also... I could very easily be having a great day.. and get some of these things done and then bam! It can quickly turn into a not so good day... only time will tell. JDub can usually tell within 5 minutes what kind of day I've had... that's what happens when you've been with someone for so long right!?

oh happy day!

So I know usually I'm all blah blah.... I'm so worn out... I need a break.... my son's driving me crazy..... but guess what...

Today was a wonderful day! I managed to do a load of laundry (from start to finish... its even put away!), change my bedding, sweep and mop the kitchen floor, make a coaster, finish my Valentine's Day project, and of course all while spending some time with my son. the only real bummer was the fact that channel 9 was not coming in well this morning so whenever Ellen was making a joke the punchline was usually broken up by low signal strength! But my son was an angel all day. I think I only scolded him once! (I mean you can't get mad at once... that's pretty good...)

So yay. Happy Monday to me :)

insomnia

Why is it when you want to sleep you can't... and when you don't really have time to sleep you want to? I just don't get it... Last night I could not get to sleep for the life of me... I kept staring at that clock hoping and wishing I would fall asleep. It didn't help that I had gnarly heartburn. When I use to hear people complaining about their heartburn I thought oh jeez suck it up... but man when I get it b/c of pregnancy I feel ya! You never know what people are going through until you experience it yourself. And it sucks big time.

I literally hopped into bed around 10:30... and the last time I looked at the clock it was a little before midnight. I finally gave in and popped a couple Tums to attempt to help with heartburn... I just kept lying there thinking oh I could go fold the laundry in the dryer... or work on a little project I started for Father's Day or the one for Valentine's Day... but then I think no! I need to be sleeping or I'm going to have a long day tomorrow! Then it made me think about infomercials... Since I do have a TV in the bedroom now I was tempted to turn it on. But then I felt bad b/c I wasn't alone in bed and that would be rude... but aren't infomercials funny sometimes?

I know most people probably don't watch them unless they're up really late at night and there's nothing else to watch. Since I don't have cable sometimes during the day that's all there is to see! (Unless I want to watch stupid soap operas or some terrible court tv shows... I mean I like People's Court and Judge Judy.... but most of those other people aren't very good). I haven't given in and bought anything from an infomercial in a long time... it seems like nowadays you can get "As seen on Tv" items from stores now too! I did get a bump it (as a present) and I love my turbie twists. I still want to try that WEN shampoo... I also got one of those GT 101 Xpress things as a present and I love it! Well I mostly love it.... here's what it is....

I love making omelets, hot ham-n-cheese's and mini cakes when I really need something sweet! The only problem I'm having is with its non-stick coating. Its not so non-stick anymore and its getting to be a pain to clean. Instead of just pouring the ingredients in and coming back I have to remember to spray it with Pam and even then stuff still sticks. Then yesterday I ran across the Xpress Redi Set Go! Its new and improved from the original GT Xpress.

So I dunno if you can tell but instead of having two wells... it has one big one, but also has inserts for two wells and little muffin things too! It looks like it has a timer too which would be nice. I am tempted to get one...but I think I'll put it on my wish list and see what happens. I really do like the one I have.... and it works... but I have a feeling I'd like the newer one even better!

Those infomercials can really get you sometimes! Wouldn't you love to be the actors on them? They get to be so over-dramatic and over the top its ridiculous. Have you seen that toothpaste one where the people are like "are you tired of this?!" and it shows people squeezing their toothpaste tube and getting toothpaste on the countertop, their hands, even the ground... I mean come on like its that hard to squeeze a normal amount of toothpaste on your toothbrush w/o making a mess everywhere... Kids ya that's one thing I can totally see them making a mess... but adults? Oh and there are sooo many workout ones too. Whether its for equipment or a video of some sort. I know people who have bought the Bean, or Pilates tapes.... even that P90X thing if you want to get really ripped.... I just stick to my instant Netflix workouts... (allthough I haven't been doing those lately.....).

(Dis) Organized....

So Sometimes I am really proud of my organizational skills... I usually know where things are at in the house... even if my system is flawed... I still know where to find the fingernail clippers.....but most of the time I am very unorganized. I always watch that Nanny show where she says how important it is to set a schedule for your children, and follow through with it every day. I just can't see myself doing that. Sure there are things that I generally go throughout the day around the same time... like get up... and change diapers... and feed my son. Do you know there are people out there who plan every meal for every day of the month? Then they make and buy their groceries accordingly. How do you know you'll be in the mood to eat meatloaf on Friday, January 30th? And what do you do if someone offers to take you out to dinner... do you just waste the meal you cooked all day? I guess some people can plan ahead like that...But I'm just not one for schedules set in stone.

I wish I was. It would probably make things alot easier and at the same time help me remember the last time I cleaned the toilets... I guess I'll have to get back into the precise scheduling when the new baby comes... They really want you to write everything down.. every diaper, every feeding... and its alot when they're new. And I really did well with my first. I wrote eveything down to the minute! Now if I'll be able to do that with the second one I'll be impressed and a little surprised. I know its goin to be alot of work, so lets hope I can pull it off!

new year's resolution

So I figured I don't usually do the new year's resolution thing... just because if I really wanted to do something that bad I'd do it... but I decided to give in this year and set one.... I'm going to finish my t-shirt quilt! Yes I am... I can't even remember how long I've been working on it... but I'm gonna do it! And its looking quite nice right now too!

I'm going to have to hire someone to do the quilting part.... I've realized there are some things I can't do on my own. But I am pretty proud of what I've accomplished with some help of course. It will be exciting to see it once its all said and done.

Some of my favorite things

Ok so I'm no Oprah.... but I think some of my favorite things are pretty cool so I figured I share a few... :)

-Viva paper towels... yea I know its kind of lame, to talk about paper towels, but they are awesome! They are by far worth the extra price and they are the best paper towels EVER. If you haven't ever tried them you really should... I bet you'll never go back to crappy generic again! Especially if you're like me and use about 85 paper towels a day.

-Bath and Body works "my favorite lip balm." This stuff totally rocks. It doesn't have any pigment... and the flavor and scent is not over-powering at all and it feels really nice on your lips. I like how you don't have to use your fingers to put it on either... especially with all the flu/bugs that go around these days.

-Kiss me mascara, beauty tubes. This stuff is waaaay expensive though, so I have a nice substitute that's more affordable...the L'OREAL Double Extend Beauty tubes. Instead of coating your lashes this has a two step process. First you put on a white coat and then you top it with the black (or brown) coat. They're called beauty tubes b/c it creates a layer around your lashes. You don't have to worry about raccoon eyes in the morning (if you're like me and don't always wash your face at night..). And they wash off like little black squigglies.

-Orange and Spice Lipton tea. I LOVE drinking hot tea... especially when its below zero! And this is by far the best tea I've ever tasted. Of course I have to add alot of sugar, but it is yummy. If you haven't tried it you should!

-Puffs plus with lotion kleenex. Ok I know technically this is not kleenex, its called tissue, but who really calls it tissue anyway? I made the mistake of writing kleenex on my grocery list and my husband came home with Kleenex brand tissues. No thank you! They just aren't the same! I go through kleenex like paper towels... and once again, the extra $ is totally worth it.

I know they aren't the most exciting things around.. but they are some of my favorites :)

Staycation

Thank you for the responses toward babysitting my lil guy so "mommy and daddy" could have some time away. While I wish a vacation was an option... my hubby shot that one down like a fat kid in dodge-ball. Does that make sense? Well anyway he said nooo way... we don't have money for it. {insert sad puppy face here...... pause for some sympathy awws.......}

But I guess there is another option... a staycation. Where we can just stay home... cooking and eating my same boring food.... sleeping in my own bed... cleaning up after myself and others as usual... I guess it could be worse. So hopefully that will happen in the near future. It's prolly a good thing b/c I need to get some stuff done around here anyway.

We'll have to finally finish touching up the paint for Johnson's new room and clear it out b/c it has a lot of tools and random things right now. I've been trying to organize my clothes lately... See I have some maternity clothes that were inherited or bought and are really just too short for my neverending belly so I've decided instead of holding on to them I'm giving them away. I've got a little pile started... but still have more to go through. I still have my college scrapbook that needs a few pages done... maybe I can get to that! So yea, I'm still working on the date for my staycation... but at least I know its going to happen soon. I feel weird asking people to watch Johnson when I'm not going anywhere... but its ok right? Its not a bad thing to do that..... right?

I need a vacation

Yesterday after a long day and well frankly a series of long days... I decided I need a vacation. Not necessarily somewhere expensive or tropical (allthough that would be awesome...) just a weekend away. Anywhere really. I'm just needing some time away from a constantly dirty/messy house, and my son. I love him. I really do. We have alot of fun together. I love seeing him learn new things and repeat words after me... but I would also love some time away. I can count on one hand the number of nights he has slept away from Mommy and Daddy.... which seems a little sad to me. So frankly I'm burnt out. I just need a weekend away somewhere.

Any suggestions? Any cheap places? Anywhere close so we aren't spending a fortune on gas and lodging? I'm almost thinking Riverside would be nice. But my hubby's not much of a gambler. I just figured a hotel with a pool, some entertainment close by... I dunno though. Vacations cost money... and with the holidays just ending I know we spent a bit on that.

Oh yea... and most important... who wants to watch my wonderful son while we're away? Just pick a weekend! Tell me you can do it and I'll plan something. It would be nice to do it before baby #2 shows up... cause I'd hate to still be burnt out for that new adventure...

happy new year 2010!

Time flies when you're having fun right? Or just b/c that's what time does in general.... flies by... This year Jeremy and I will celebrate our 4th year of marriage and welcome our 2nd child into this world. Its kinda crazy to think that.... the whole 4th year of marriage isn't much of a surprise considering we've been dating since my junior year of high school..... its seems like we've been together forever; and that's not a bad thing. But sometimes I think oh I'm still young... and then I think wait... am I? I mean I know I look young... been hearing that one for years... and will still hear it for a while I'm sure. But I'm getting up there! You know you're getting old when you get excited to get new laundry baskets for Christmas... and a Snuggie! Something I do... not necessarily b/c I'm old, but because I'd forget my head if it wasn't attached sometimes... is have my very own wish list :)

Sometimes I'll see an infomercial or want something I don't need at that very moment, but think "yea, I could use that down the road!" and I'll write it on my wish list. I keep my list posted on the fridge for all to see. Some people might think I'm greedy, but really these aren't all necessities, they're just things I wish I had. I dont really see the harm in having my list. I mean honestly, wouldn't you rather get a present you really want? Sure there are things out there that I love getting that aren't on my list, but it is great to mark things off of it! In fact I made a new list all together after Christmas b/c I had so many items on there people gave me. When it comes to birthdays, anniversaries, and Christmas, most of the time people will ask you what you want! Not that I'm expecting to get anything at all.... but I'm pretty fortunate to have great friends and family who like to buy me things :) This way I go to my fridge, look over my list.... and mention a few ideas. They don't have to take my suggestions, but I do feel it helps to write them down b/c I forget what is on my list frequently...

So hey, I encourage you, if you have a husband who needs a little help sometimes remind him of that special list that's posted for all to see. He can even pass information on to his family if they need some hints as well. There's nothing wrong with telling people what you want if they ask!
